Happy New Year!!

The Flint River Antique Tractor Association would like to wish everyone a happy new year. We’re sure last year was just as busy for you as it was for us, but we’re looking forward to a great 2009 and hoping yours is just as wonderful.

Where we were and what we did in 2008:

In April we had our 10th Annual show, and had a very good turn out. The weather was finally on our side unlike the past few years. Thank you to all the exhibitors that came and supported our show and community. As usual we had our pedal tractor races, which are always a favorite of the children, and skillet throwing contest for the ladies. During the show the Lincoln County Soccer Club supplied the concessions and they always do a great job. In 2008, we opened our show up to antique cars, trucks, and motorcycles. We appreciate all who came out and hope to draw more each year as we plan on inviting these groups to join us year after year. During our show, we honored Maurice Caldwell with a plaque for his dedication to the antique tractor association and to this community. What an honor it was for him to be present with us that day. In September, we lost our dear friend, founder, and tractor association family member. Maurice was one of a kind and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

After the show, it was time to visit other shows and some members visited the Elk River Tractor Show in October. The association once again teamed up with the Lincoln County FFA Alumni to give our 2nd college scholarship to a graduating senior at Lincoln County High School. Clint Gill, a 2008 graduate of Lincoln County High School, received the $500.00 Scholarship to go toward his college education. To finish off the season, we built our annual Christmas Float for the Fayetteville/Lincoln County Parade. Many of our members spend two very long and cold weekends preparing the float and then one extremely long morning putting on the finishing touches. The float won 1st place in the large float category. Clayton Brown won the judges award with his steel wheel farmall and Clint Brown won 1st place in the small float category with his “Deer Huntin’ Mud Bogg truck”. During the Christmas season, the club gave fruit baskets to former farmers of our county. As the years go by, they seem to get busier and busier but we are so thankful that each one of you takes the time to come out and show us your support.

Our 11th Annual Show

We have set a date of April 11, 2009 for our 11th Annual Tractor Show. As always it will be held at the Lincoln County High School. This year we will again invite all antique car, truck, and motorcycle owners to participate in our show. For more details you may contact President Clayton Brown at 931-703-2283, or Wade Towry at 931-625-3711. As we have done for the past few years, we will be taking $25.00 donations for a 16ft bumper pull trailer to be given away at the show on April 11th. We will also be taking donations for a John Deere pedal tractor with trailer that will be given away at our show as well.

Thanks for your support and we will see you at the show April 11, 2009.
